In a warehouse run on paper lists, the operator decides the order of work. Everyone goes to the shelf they know first, the urgent order sits in the middle of the list, and whoever comes back from a put-away walks empty-handed. The work gets done, but its order and route are nobody's decision.
What directed work is
In the WMS world, RF-directed work is a core principle: the system creates work as tasks, knows their owner and priority, shows the operator only the step they are on, and validates each step by scanning. Task interleaving goes one step further: adding a task that lies on the way to or from another job into the same tour.
The task queue in iyibir WMS
- The manager creates picking tasks from orders on the web and assigns them or leaves them in the pool; operators can also take tasks from the pool.
- Put-away, replenishment and moves are tasks too; after goods receipt the first button is "Put away".
- The Next job card shows the running job first, then assigned work, then the pool; within each, urgent first, then nearest due time.
- When a task opens, stock is soft-reserved; the same stock is never given to two tasks.
- Stops come in route order; with voice guidance on, the shelf and quantity are read aloud.
How task interleaving decides
If the manager turns task interleaving on, a task on the operator's way can be brought forward while the head of the queue is neither urgent nor close to due, such as a pick on the way back from a put-away. The operator's position is known from the last shelf scanned. The rule is fixed and makes no guesses; it is set in the web panel: maximum detour, priority band and due-time guard.
Mistakes stop where they happen
- The target shelf is scanned; an unexpected shelf brings a sound, a vibration and an expected-versus-scanned card under the scan field, and the flow stops.
- A line cannot be closed short while goods are in hand.
- If the shelf is empty, "Report short" first suggests other shelves holding the same item, nearest-expiry lot first.
- When a task ends, the shelf transfer opens as a draft for Logo and is written on approval.
Operators see their own day on the "Today" card in the Tasks tab: lines per hour, accuracy, completed tasks. Values are compared with the person's own previous days; there is no ranking against others.
Step by step: Turning task interleaving on and using it on the floor
- In the web panel, turn on task interleaving under Management › Settings › Labour and shifts.
- Enter the maximum detour, priority band and due-time guard for your warehouse; confirm the change.
- On mobile the operator taps Start on the Next job card in the Tasks tab.
- At each stop they scan the shelf first, then the item; the app may move a task on the way to the front of the queue.
- When the task ends they approve writing the shelf transfer to Logo, or choose Later.
Frequently asked questions
- Does task interleaving decide with AI?
- No. The choice follows a fixed rule: running job, assigned work, pool; priority and due time; with interleaving on, detour distance, priority band and due-time guard.
- Can an operator open a task for themselves?
- Yes. They can take a task from the pool or open a picking task for themselves from an order.
- Will urgent work be delayed by interleaving?
- Interleaving only applies while the head of the queue is neither urgent nor close to due; the due-time guard is set in the settings.
